13- Last of the Trim -- 2/9/01 - 2/23/01

2/9-- The bow deck completed, before the outer gunwales are installed.
2/16-- Here's the yoke shape I decided on. I modified the shape of design I found on the now-defunct Canoebuilding.com. This stock is 7/8" thick so I'll be able to carve a lot of relief to it. I reduced the width to a consistent 1.5" to follow the curve into the wide section in the center, and changed the curve along the back to remove a little more material.
This piece of ash was perfect for the job: The grain curves to match the curve of the yoke.
2/20-- The seats are assembled and the yoke blank is cut out.
2/23-- The outer Gunwales in place and sanded. That was the last major piece of construction on the boat. From now on, it's sanding, finishing and assembling.
