5- More Strips -- 12/7/00 - 12/9/00

At the waterline 12/7--It's beginning to look like a canoe. It's a lot of fun watching it take shape as strips are added. This part is quite enjoyable. It's an easy process, no big decisions to make other than color scheme, and really satisfying to see it come together.
12/8--A few more strips... At the waterline
creative clamping Whatever it takes to stick them down & keep them together. I find masking tape works great for pulling strips together. Just be sure not to pull it tight over the fragile cove edges. It's got enough stretch I can always coax a little bit more glue out of the joint when I pull it tight.

(Note: A short piece of 1/4" dowel dropped in the cove to protect the edges and you can pull on the tape as hard as you want.)

The big C-clamp is used as a counterweight to twist the strip back to vertical as it meets the stem. Fine adjustments can be made by pulling the end of the clamp down with string, or my favorite, masking tape.
It's a tip from Green Valley Boat's excellent website. Be sure to check out the Builder's notes section.
